We are pleased to announce the launch of the newly redesigned Suffolk Records Society website. The previous site was built using Joomla 3, an outdated platform that no longer meets modern web standards. As part of this project, we successfully migrated the website to Joomla 5, the latest and more advanced Content Management System. The transition to a new platform also provided an excellent opportunity to refresh the overall design and enhance the user experience.
Hikashop Intergration
As part of the Suffolk Records Society’s website upgrade, we integrated HikaShop into the new Joomla 5 platform to enable the online sale of their publications. HikaShop was chosen for its seamless compatibility with Joomla and its flexibility in managing a straightforward e-commerce experience. We configured the store with custom categories, detailed product listings, and user-friendly checkout features, all designed to reflect the Society’s brand and meet their specific needs. Payment and shipping options were tailored accordingly, and the shop’s design was aligned with the overall look and feel of the new site. This addition provides the Society with a modern, manageable way to promote and sell their books directly to their audience.
News Blog
To further enhance the Suffolk Records Society’s online presence, we added a dedicated news and blog section to the new website. This feature allows the Society to easily post updates, announcements, and other relevant content to keep their members and visitors informed. Built directly into the Joomla 5 system, the blog area is simple to manage, with an intuitive editor that enables the client to add text, images, and links without needing technical expertise. The design of the blog was tailored to match the rest of the site, ensuring a cohesive look while maintaining readability and accessibility. This new section offers the Society a flexible platform for sharing news, promoting events, and engaging more dynamically with their audience.
Responsive Designs
As part of the redesign for the Suffolk Records Society’s website, we ensured the new site was fully responsive, adapting seamlessly to any device or screen size. With more users accessing websites from smartphones and tablets, it was essential that the Society’s online presence provided a smooth and consistent experience across all platforms. The responsive design ensures that whether visitors are browsing from a desktop, mobile, or tablet, the website automatically adjusts to deliver optimal usability and readability. We recently had the pleasure of creating a brand-new website for the Suffolk Records Society, following the decision to retire their previous site, which had been built on Joomla 3—an outdated content management system that no longer offered the flexibility, security, or performance required for a modern web presence. While the core content of the website remained largely the same, this redevelopment project provided an excellent opportunity to reimagine the site’s overall design and user experience. We took great care in preserving the Society’s historical identity and existing resources, while also introducing a more contemporary, accessible, and visually engaging interface. The site has now been migrated to Joomla 5, a significantly more advanced and future-ready platform, ensuring improved functionality, mobile responsiveness, and ease of maintenance for the years ahead. Throughout the process, we worked to subtly modernise the layout, enhance navigation, and refine the visual elements—balancing tradition with usability. The result is a refreshed online presence that better serves the Society’s members and audience, while staying true to its scholarly and archival mission.
